A regional communications plan for the Hampton Roads area is being suggested for use. The plan is quite simple in the setup. It is a list of repeater names and frequency pairs with associated tone setting in the region plus listings of simplex channels. The originator of the list suggests that if the amateurs in the area will pre-program this list into their radios it will make it easier to set up event nets and subnets. The intent is to be able to brief those working a disaster or other multi-jurisdictional event to operate on "channel number..." for the event traffic net or subnets. The plan is already in use by groups in Norfolk and Portsmouth and all are encouraged to have radios programmed in this manner. Since the plan was initially distributed, several amateurs who have already programmed radios according to the plan have offered to "clone" others' radios for them saving them the time to manually add all of the information into the memory positions in their radios.
POC for the Plan project is Portsmouth AEC (Communications) Steve Molo, KI4KWR.
